I just love my church, and I also love attending our 9:00am service. We that attend the 9:00am service are well fed spiritually and depart by 10:30am every Sunday. As I was leaving church this past Sunday, enjoying the weather along my 30-minute ride home, the thought of a white chocolate mocha (hot) from Starbuck’s entered my sensory palate. As I pulled up to the speaker to place my order, she then proceeded to tell me my total was ($6.22). I rarely carry cash, but this was an instance where I was prepared to pay cash. What’s also rare is having loose change in my purse because I use a coin purse.
I couldn’t find my change purse, so while I’m waiting to move forward, here I am fumbling around in my purse for .22 cents. Fortunately, I finally found the correct change before I reached the window to pay. However, as I looked at the change I had gathered up, the dime (see photo) looked dirty, and damaged. The value of the dime seemed to match the monetary value as the two pennies. I almost was ready to look again or look deeper for a dime that “looked better” or at least looked like it held a greater value than the appearance it was giving. The Lord had to quicken my spirit, “the dime still holds its value even though it looks worn, damaged, and dirty.”
How many times have we looked at ourselves, and others and because of an appearance, or what has transpired in our lives; we deem it invaluable. Even as I pulled to the window and handed my money over to the cashier, I explained to her that I had given her the correct change. I didn’t want her to think that I had given her three pennies. The Lord continued to deal with me about having a need to explain. He said, “when you know your value and your worth, there’s no need to explain to anyone else!”
I know y’all are saying, “what’s the point you are making Pastor P? Here it is! You, me, we are valuable to the kingdom of God. Although some things may have happened in our lives, we still have value in God’s sight. We may look a little worn, dingy, and unappealing, but that’s ok, because our value does not come from our own visibility; it comes from being in the center of what God has called you and me to be. We must believe and declare God’s truth over our lives to remain free from placing our faith in things that doesn’t appear valuable. When God chose us, He already deemed us as valuable in His sight.
Remember you and me are more than what we see or what others think. The dime in this picture looks almost like pennies, it still holds the value of the other dime. Just because it looks like it has been through something, God says, “it still can be used.”
Read Isaiah 43:4 and be encouraged!
How to know your value in the kingdom of God:
Understand your worth is from God, not from worldly things.
Recognize your identity in Christ.
Love y’all to life!
