God -dependent vs. IN-dependent

God -dependent vs. IN-dependent

In a society where we are driven by self-sufficiency, we can forget that God want us to totally depend upon Him.

Currently I am teaching a Bible study series on this very topic. (Join us on Zoom this Thursday. We are discussing some women in the Bible that learned how they trusted themselves vs. trusting and depending on God).

I want to pose a question for everyone to meditate on within your heart. Do you find it easier to trust God more with the "BIG things" in your life, or do you treat those daily and ordinary moments like they are different and yours to handle alone?

If this is you, your mindset may be IN-dependent of God. Meaning you are relying on self, more than you are trusting God.

Listen, the Lord's gentle whisper invites us to seek Him in all troubles and struggles. He can use our daily struggles to draw us to a deeper connection with Him.

Key Ways to Build God-Dependence:

Cultivate Constant Prayer: Move beyond listing requests; share fears, desires, and decisions with God throughout the day.

Surrender Control and Outcomes: Consciously release the need to manage results. Accept that God's strength is perfected in weakness, and He provides power where your own efforts fail.

Prioritize the Word: Study God’s attributes (mercy, power, love) to build trust in His character, which makes relying on Him easier.

Practice "Joint Ventures" with Jesus: View tasks as tasks you do with Him rather than just for Him, reducing anxiety and increasing partnership.

Confess Self-Reliance: Treat relying on your own strength (rather than God's) as a habit to be forgiven, which helps foster humility.

Daily Habits for Shifting Dependence:

Start with God: Begin the morning in prayer to set a foundation of dependence before taking on demands.

Use Limitations as Reminders: When you feel overwhelmed or weak, treat that feeling as a trigger to ask for God’s help, not as a sign of failure.

Embrace Rest: Intentionally resting demonstrates that you trust God to handle things, rather than believing you must work endlessly.
